ECHOES OF TIME
“Since our great-grandfather Hipólito Montero acquired Posada del León de Oro back in 1880, five generations of our family have run the establishment, and the sixth generation is on its way. We hope they will maintain the family legacy with the same affection with which our ancestor began this journey.”

Posada del León de Oro was established in an early 17th-century building located on a plot of land belonging to the convent of Nuestra Señora de la Merced. It operated as an inn from 1880 until 2001, when it closed its doors for a complete renovation and conversion into the boutique hotel we know today, reopening in 2010.
“Corrala” was a type of building typical of Madrid, consisting of small dwellings accessed through doors located in galleries or corridors leading to a large interior courtyard.
Ours retains its original structure.
“I went over water built, my walls of fire are.”
This phrase refers to the origins of the 12th-century Christian wall, which was built with silex and, when struck by enemy arrows, created a flash of sparks that simulated fire.
The remains of the wall can be seen beneath the glass floor of the restaurant.
